Cops probing fire that killed Myanmar man
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a fire that
killed a Myanmar national and injured another at a makeshift container
home in Jalan Tiong Nam here.
The fire, believed to be an arson attack, took place at around 3am yesterday at the container, which is located in a carpark that the two men, both 28, were looking after.
It is learnt that the Fire and Rescue Department received a call about the fire at about 3.30am.
Although rescuers from the Sentul and Hang Tuah fire stations managed to save one of the men, the other was burnt in the fire.
Authorities later found two plastic bins believed to have been used in the arson attack.
Acting City CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said the police were investigating the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“We found some evidence that shows that the fire was set on purpose, causing the death of the Myanmar national.
“The other man is being warded at Hospital Kuala Lumpur for burns and smoke inhalation,” he said, adding that they would be making an arrest today.
The motive for the fire, he said, was related to the parking lot.
